"Mommy, I Maka-a Turtle!"

I was doing dishes as Kaitlyn was sitting at the table playing play dough. She very excitedly told me that she had made a turtle. Very used to giving her a "mmm, hmm...good job" type of a remark, trying to muster excitement for every drawing and blob of play dough as she tells me what she has created. Never does it actually bear much resemblance to the thing she has supposedly made. Well, today, her turtle actually kind of resembled a turtle! I was very impressed. So, I took a picture of her first recognizable piece of art. (Well, if you don't include the wonderful, detailed drawing of her doctor that she made last month on the chalkboard at the doctor's office, complete with facial features and limbs. Unfortunately, that snapshot will have to remain in my mind.)

Here's the famous "turtle." Can you see it? At least sort of? I know, I know. Mothers sometimes see things in their children that others can't. :-)

Future Astronauts (and Climbers) of America

The kids had a "blast" this past weekend when Daddy took them to the Kennedy Space center. (FYI, if you get a pass to Kennedy, it's good for 2 days within a week span, and transferrable! So, we were given the second day on someone's passes. Very cool!) So, since both of our boys want to be astronauts (or "space scientists") when they grow up, they had a great time exploring the center. The highlight for Kaitlyn (who aspires to be a rock climber when she gets older...or maybe a sky-scraper window-washer) was the traverse climbing wall. It took her a minute to get started, but then she took off! Very fun.
